About Run The Trails

Who We Are

We’re trail runners who believe the best trails aren’t reserved for race day. Some of our team come from endurance backgrounds beyond running, including long-distance horse riding, where pacing, terrain awareness, and moving sustainably through landscapes matter more than speed.

Run The Trails designs guided trail running workshops, delivered as travel vacations, that give you access to race-quality routes with expert support, without the pressure, crowds, or timers.

Why China and Asia

China is one of the most underrated trail running destinations in Asia. From historic Great Wall sections to remote mountain and ridgeline trails, the terrain is vast, varied, but often difficult to access for foreign visitors.

It’s where we’ve built deep experience, and where our Asia-focused approach begins. As we expand across the region, we apply the same philosophy: iconic routes, strong local partnerships, and immersive running experiences shaped by place and culture.

Our Approach

Our trips are not races. There are no cut-offs or podiums.  Instead, our workshops focus on:

  • Race-quality long runs at a sustainable pace
  • Technique, terrain awareness, and confidence building
  • Time to recover, refuel, and experience the landscape

You’ll run challenging routes with attractive elevations, with the space to slow down or speed up and learn along the way.

Local Expertise

Our team has organised and supported trail running events with hundreds of participants and works with trusted local partners to manage safety, logistics, and on-the-ground support.

What Makes Us Different

Run The Trails is not a race organiser or mass-market tour company.

We create immersive trail running workshops and vacations for runners who want time, space, and depth on iconic routes.

Co-Founder & Brand Experience Director

Vivien Teo

Vivien has lived most of her life in big cities — Singapore, New York, Beijing, Shanghai — but has always sought something to ground her. That journey began with horses, competing in both showjumping and FEI endurance races. She loved the precision and speed of one, the patience and strategy of the other, and most of all, the quiet moments outdoors.

Her passion for horse riding holidays sparked a love for deeper travel — going beyond sightseeing to immerse herself in landscapes and cultures. When she transitioned from riding to running, trail running gave her the same sense of connection, blending physical challenge with the serenity of nature.

She has explored trails from the Great Wall to Beijing’s cress and persimmon filled forests and the jungles of Thailand and Malaysia, embracing the variety of terrains and the way each place transforms the running experience.

As an Adventurer–Challenger level runner, Vivien founded Run the Trails to share trail running as a form of purposeful travel — combining coaching, cultural immersion, and iconic routes designed with local expertise. She ensures every runner arrives ready to enjoy the trails, while Run the Trails takes care of everything else.

As Route Director for Run the Trails , she plans, tests, and fine-tunes each itinerary to ensure runners experience both the adventure and the culture of every destination. Her approach is steady, curious, and always in search of a long technical climb with a breathtaking view at the top.

Advisory Board

Bruno Hernandez

Born in Chile, raised in Germany, and fluent in five languages, Bruno has always chased adrenaline and adventure. A former rugby and basketball player, he found trail running after moving to China, where the mountains replaced the court and became his new arena.

He has since explored trails across China, South America, and Europe, from rugged alpine climbs to desert paths. Along the way, he’s developed a deep appreciation for China’s diverse landscapes and the untapped potential they hold for international runners.

With a globetrotter perspective and on-the-ground trail experience, Bruno advises Run the Trails on delivering assured quality and hospitality that meet international expectations, while showcasing China’s most breathtaking and lesser-known routes.

Advisory Coach

Linda Li

Linda began her coaching journey as a Strength & Conditioning trainer in 2020 and expanded into running coaching in 2023, driven by her own love of the sport and a mission to debunk common running myths.

She works with runners of all levels, from beginners tackling their first 10K to intermediate and ultra runners improving form or recovering from injury. Her coaching philosophy centers on balanced training and mindset: building confidence, listening to the body, and sustaining the joy of running without burnout.

Linda has raced in events such as the Ironman 70.3 Bintan, Boston Marathon, Huizhou 100K, and Mount Yun 100 Miles. She brings Run the Trails’ runners not only expertise in performance and injury prevention, but also a philosophy of running for life, not just for results.
